Koh Lanta, Thailand's tropical paradise

Island info

Koh Lanta island runs from north to south with the west coast established as the main tourist area. Picture perfect sunsets can be seen from the many beaches, running the entire length of the island. The east coast is far less developed. Facing the sunrise over the mainland, the coastline consists mainly of mangroves with some small beaches down in the southern tip.

The temperature on Koh Lanta varies between about 26 – 38 degrees Celsius throughout the whole year with the sea temperature averaging 30 degrees Celsius.

The locals on Koh Lanta are a combination of Muslim and Buddhist Thai's, Chao Ley (Sea gypsies) and a growing number of ex-pats from around the world.

Getting to Koh Lanta

Koh (or ko) Lanta is actually a pair of islands, situated near Krabi on the west coast of Thailand. Koh Lanta Noi (Small Lanta) is the smaller of the islands just 100m North of Koh Lanta Yai (Big Lanta). Lanta Noi is completely undeveloped by tourism, inhabited solely by Thai's. It provides the stepping stone to the mainland and anyone traveling by minibus to Koh Lanta (Yai) will visit Noi for the 10 minute drive between the 2 car ferry's. Minibuses can be booked between Lanta and most places in Thailand, going even as far as Kuala Lumpar and Singapore.
Passenger ferry's run to Lanta in high season from Krabi, Ao Nang, Phuket, Phi Phi and Koh Ngai(Hai). By plane you can fly to either Krabi or Phuket and choose between ferry or bus to Lanta, or fly to Trang and take a bus. Trang is also on Thailand's rail network so train and bus is another option. For more information check Koh Lanta Life.

Yes. We work together with www.LantaWeddings.com to provide high quality tropical beach weddings.

Many nationalities recieve a free 30 day visa on arrival, which you can extend to a maximum of 90 days by taking a 1 day border run. For longer stays, or countries that are not offered "visa on arrival" then you will need to visit a Thai embassy or consulate to arrange a visa.
